Former French major Wandaka Musungira and former French minor James Sipowicz in Paris after Wandaka completed the Paris Marathon, his fourth marathon. Wandaka is a teaching assistant in Rennes through TAPIF. He will continue as a teaching assistant next year in Grenoble. James, a former TAPIF teaching assistant (2021-22), currently works for a French data analysis company in Paris.

After a year working at Disney World as an entertainment performer, recent graduate D'Artagnan Elliott has been accepted into the Teacher College's Social-Organizational Psychology MA program at Columbia University.

Broderick Turner, former French and International Relations major, was selected to speak at TEDx. Broderick is a Rangel International Affairs Fellow who received his Masters degree in Global Affairs from Yale University in 2022. The US State Department will station this remarkable diplomat in Brazil next month.

Texas State’s French Club (Le Cercle Français) hosted a special international event on Thursday, March 31st. The club teamed up with the French Consulate in Houston to host “French Outside Of France.” This event was a celebration of the French community at Texas State.

D’Artagnan Elliott, French and Anthropology major, won first prize ($1000) at the COLA Undergraduate Research Expo with his translation from French to English of part of a historic diplomatic document, "Journal d’un Mandarin: Lettres de Chine." He also presented his translation and research at the Texas State University Anthropology Research Conference and the 15th Annual Honors College Research Conference and Thesis Forum.

The Department of World Languages and Literatures congratulates Broderick Turner, who will be entering the Master's program in Global Affairs at Yale University in the fall. One of the roughly 30 applicants accepted each year into the program, he will receive an annual stipend in addition to his Rangel Scholar Fellowship. While at Yale, he will also pursue a Teaching Fellowship position, hopefully, he says, with the French Department. Among extra-curricular pursuits, he would like to join the Guild of Carillonneurs.

Dr. Moira Di Mauro-Jackson participated in a 5-day professional training workshop in French for Business with a focus on the fashion and luxury industry. She, along with 10 French French professors from across the US, met on the campus of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas. The training was organized by the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the U.S., in cooperation with the Paris Ile-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Department of World Languages and Literatures of SMU.

Le Cercle français (Texas State University French Club) hosted the end-of-semester Repas and Pi Delta Phi induction ceremony chez Dr. Carole Martin on Sunday, December 8th, 2019. Pi Delta Phi is the National French Honor Society for students at accredited public and private colleges and universities in the United States. Congratulations to Broderick Turner and Justin Vickers for their hard work and admittance into the highest academic honor in the field of French and the oldest academic honor society for a modern foreign language in the United States.

The Department of World Languages and Literatures congratulates French and International Studies major Broderick Turner, who was named a Rangel Fellow for 2020. He will receive funding for any Master's program at any U.S. institution that deals with international affairs. He will have an internship on Capitol Hill and another at an embassy abroad. And he will have a five-year position as a Foreign Service Officer after graduate school.

Congratulations to Megan L. Mall who was inducted into the French National Honor Society at last night's French Club “Repas,” hosted by Dr. Forrest. We also wish graduating French Club president, Jonathan Koenig, good fortune in his future endeavors! Pi Delta Phi, the French National Honor Society, Epsilon Tau Chapter, recognizes outstanding scholarship in the French language and Francophone literatures, strives to increase the knowledge of and appreciation for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and encourages French and francophone cultural activities in the United States. The French Club (Le Cercle Français) is a vibrant group of students that works hard to connect and enlighten students interested in the language and culture of France and Francophone countries and to celebrate and promote French culture at our University.

Congratulations to Brittany Debaisieux, Nicholas Eastwood, Leticia Patterson, and Broderick Turner for passing the CCIP French Business Exam (French Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris). Three of these four students passed with Honors at the B2 level, generally the highest level obtained by undergraduates.

Modern Languages faculty and French Honor Society Advisor Dr. Di Mauro-Jackson congratulate French major, Ms. Marisa Luna, who was inducted into the National French Honor Society Pi Delta Phi on December 1, 2018 in recognition of her outstanding scholarship in French language and Francophone literature. The ceremony took place during the French Club's "Repas." Among the attendees were Dr. Jennifer Forrest, Dr. Carole Martin, and Dr. Valérie Masson as well as all the French Club officers and members. The French Faculty congratulate recent graduate Nicolas Trevino who was accepted into the TAPIF program. He will be a language assistant through the Académie de Poitiers, assisting instructors from October 1, 2018 to April 30, 2019 at the Lycée Marguerite de Valois and at the Collège René Cassin in the towns of Angoulême and Gond-Pontouvre, respectively.
